West Virginia Hospital CEO to resign as WVU transitions

As Weirton (West Virginia) Medical Center plans to join the West Virginia University Health System in Morgantown, it will see a change in leadership.

John Frankovich, Weirton’s president and CEO since 2016, will retire at the end of the year, according to a Weirton Medical Center press release shared with Becker November 1st.

David Artman has been named the next President and CEO, effective January 1. Mr. Artman joined the hospital in 2012 and currently serves as chief operating officer, according to his LinkedIn. page.

Following his 27-year career at Weirton Medical Center, Mr. Frankovich will serve as President Emeritus of the Board of Trustees and Strategic Advisor. In this capacity, he will assist in strategic and integration efforts between the hospital and WVU Medicine, the release said.

Weirton Medical Center, a 238-bed acute care hospital, has partnered with WVU Medicine since 2020. signed letter of intent to join the system early this year.
