You may remember the sweetly smiling and always cheerful Robbie Novak, also known as Kid President. became a viral sensation more than ten years ago, when he was only 9 years old. His positivity, uplifting speeches and infectious spirit captured hearts around the world.

For the first time, Novak, now 21, was finally allowed to vote in a presidential election.

“I definitely remember Beyoncé,” he tells TODAY.com with a laugh about his encounter with the celebrity. “Beyoncé was so great. She talked to my mom for a really long time, and I remember she was just a sweet, sweet person.”

In fact, the memory was so indelible that Novak stitched together an old video of him kissing Beyoncé on the cheek with a current video of him in a hoodie saying, “One of the best moments of my life.” This video is from TikTok has over 9 million views.

Today, Novak leads a much more private life.

Living in a small town in Tennessee, Novak spends most of his time attending physical therapy school. But since he still enjoys being on camera, “I do a TikTok here and there just to keep people up to date,” he says.

One of those who was close to Novak from the very beginning was his eldest brother-in-law, Brad Montague. In fact, it was Montague’s desire to spend more time with Novak that led the pair to team up to create the character.

At the time, Montague was working with teenagers in a summer camp program that encouraged children to become leaders in their communities. He also learned that he would soon become a father.

“Kid President grew a lot of things,” Montague says. “One is the deep joy of being with Robbie, and the other is a deep desire to fill the world with joy and create things that I would want my future children to experience.”

Montague never stopped creating. He and his wife Christy write children’s books, teach workshops, and teach classes. Their newest book “Fail-a-Bration!”, invites readers to recognize and celebrate the fact that failure is part of the learning process.

When asked if Kid President was going to return, Montague replied that he never left.

“The spirit of Kid President lives on,” Montague says. “I remain a stubborn optimist. I believe there is a huge buzz of hope in this world, and it comes from children and the people who listen to them.”

If we can communicate with each other in what Montague calls this type of “quiet work”, he believes that over time we can make great progress.

“I’ve known Robbie pretty much his whole life,” Montague says. “I think what I’m most proud of is the fact that Robbie remains a good person and a pleasure to be around. And that’s where it all started – we just liked each other.”

Baby President is ready to vote

Novak feels that he and his friends are part of a generation that rebels against “taking sides” and instead listens to different points of view. They are eager to “discuss politics well” in a way that “does not cause controversy or disagreement.” A political conversation should be just that: a conversation. “I think this is the healthiest way to get involved in politics,” he says.

While Novak hasn’t dusted off his suit and tie to campaign again, he’s still open to doing so in the future.

“But I really hope that Brad and I will start some projects in the future,” he says. “I definitely want to go back with Brad. The chemistry is always there.”
