IDF says it has killed members of the Hamas Politburo in the Gaza Strip – World

TEL AVIV, November 1. /TASS/. The Israel Defense Forces killed Hamas Politburo member Izza ad-Din Kassab in the Gaza Strip, the army press service reported.

According to the IDF, a high-ranking official was killed in a precision strike carried out by the Israeli Air Force in the Khan Yunis area based on intelligence information.

“Kassab was one of the last high-ranking members of the Hamas Politburo remaining in the Gaza Strip. His assistant Ayman Ayesh was eliminated along with him,” the statement said.

The IDF claims that Kassab is involved in organizing a terrorist attack against the Jewish state. He “possessed significant power” and worked to maintain “Hamas’ strategic and military ties with other (Palestinian) factions in the Gaza Strip,” the statement said.

The situation in the Middle East deteriorated sharply when on October 7, 2023, armed Hamas supporters from the Gaza Strip entered Israel, killing residents of border settlements and taking more than 240 hostages.

In response, Israel launched a military operation in the enclave with the aim of destroying the military and political structures of Hamas and freeing all hostages. Fighting in the Gaza Strip continues to this day.
