NBA fans react to Paul George’s failed trade with the Denver Nuggets

Before Paul George opted out of his contract with the Los Angeles Clippers and signed a max contract with the Philadelphia 76ers, there were reports of a possible agree-and-trade scenario. In this scenario, the Golden State Warriors were the team most closely linked to a potential George deal, but they were reportedly unwilling to part ways with either Jonathan Kuminga or Brandin Podziemski.

In a new report from ESPN’s Ramona ShelburneIt turns out the Denver Nuggets have also inquired with the Clippers about a potential trade for George.

Via Shelburne: “League sources said the Nuggets were interested in Paul George this offseason, but talks never escalated because Denver refused to discuss Brown, Watson or Strawther and the Clippers weren’t solely interested in bringing him back future salary – likely $147 million. indebted to Porter and Zeke Nnaji.”

Having lost Kentavious Caldwell-Pope to free agency, adding George would give the Nuggets an All-Star to replace him in the starting lineup.

NBA fans reacted to Denver’s failed attempt to acquire George.

Via @statdefender: “The owners and Calvin Booth aren’t serious about helping Jokic win another ring.”

Via @CookedByRiley0: “Well they should lol.”

Via @Thr33ntheKeyPod: “It makes sense, the Nuggets are a team that needs depth, not loading talent up front.”

Via @worldofao: “With the second apron, you really want to turn cheap talent into quality role players, but that might be difficult for Paul George… I think he would fit in very well here in Denver. They have a chip window.”

Via @a3_isaac: “Not a bad option… they’re not giving up their future in the present, because they’re already championship contenders.”

As with Golden State, the Nuggets seemed reluctant to give up pieces they considered part of their future core.

George would theoretically be a great fit in Denver alongside Nikola Jokic, but there are definitely health and age concerns when considering what he ultimately signed for in Philadelphia.
