Columbus fugitive charged with murder arrested near Cincinnati

COLUMBUS (VKMG) – A fugitive arrested on murder charges in Columbus more than two years ago was arrested Friday morning in the Cincinnati area.

Deputies arrested Mercedes Reyes, who is accused of murder in South Linden in 2022 and recently posted an adjusted bail in March, according to the U.S. Marshals Service. A deputy told NBC4 that Reyes, 27, failed to appear in Franklin County Common Pleas Court this summer after he was charged with the murder of Shomari Little.

Little, 26, was shot and killed. Sept. 10 in the 1300 block of East 13th Avenue, according to Franklin County Municipal Court records. The next day, Reyes, who reportedly fled the scene after the shooting, was named the suspect and a warrant was issued for her arrest.

Franklin County Municipal Court Judge issued a $3 million bond to Reyes.which was then adjusted to $1 million in the Court of Common Pleas in October 2022. Her bail was adjusted again in February 2024 to Reyes’ $500,000, and twice in the spring of 2024 her release was upheld after meeting the conditions of her bail, which included house arrest and wearing a corner monitor.

But Reyes’ bond was revoked when she failed to appear in court in June, around the time investigators believe she fled central Ohio.

During an investigation by Deputy U.S. Marshals in conjunction with the Southern Ohio Fugitive Strike Force, Reyes was located in Norwood, Ohio, and she was arrested near the 5100 block of Rhode Island Avenue. It is unknown when she will be extradited to Columbus to resume her case. , which includes two counts of murder.
