Aspiring business owners to shine at Redding’s annual Startup Games

Both seasoned and aspiring entrepreneurs are gearing up to compete in this year’s Shasta Economic Development Startup Games.

Shasta Startup encourages people who are interested in becoming an entrepreneur to start testing their ideas.

According to Shasta Economic Development Corporation (Shasta EDC), the financial sponsor of the Startup Games, they expect it to be a way to develop the skills and talent that the county’s workforce needs.

Start Up Redding Director Kathy Janiszewski said aspiring entrepreneurs should constantly talk about their business and surround themselves with positivity, even if they don’t have the financial means at the moment.

“The more tests and iterations you can do when creating a prototype, MVP or minimum viable product, the more information you will gain, and in most cases you can do it without spending a lot of money,” Janiszewski said.

Janiszewski said people interested in opening a business in Redding should look for gaps in the market and see if they have a solution to better serve the community.

The event will begin on November 1 with participants pitching business ideas and then using the best ideas to form teams.

The teams will then develop a prototype, get customer feedback and present numbers to present to local business owners at a live “shark tank”-style event on Sunday.

The event will be free and open to the public at the IOOF building in downtown Redding on Sunday at 3 p.m.
