Scumbag regrets not quitting Call of Duty for Fortnite

Esports legend Seth “Scump” Abner regrets leaving Call of Duty earlier to make money from Fortnite.

Despite his incredible success in Call of Duty, Scamp now regrets not taking advantage of the wild popularity of Fortnite in the late 2010s.

Scamp, known as the “King of CoD”, has had an incredible career. From winning gold at the Major League Gaming X Games to winning the 2017 Call of Duty World Championship with OpTic Gaming, he has defined esports for over a decade.

But as Fortnite has grown exponentially, raking in millions and attracting players like Ninja immense fame and fortune, Scamp remained with Call of Duty.

“Looking back, do I regret not retiring earlier and playing Fortnite? Absolutely,” Scamp admitted on the Around the Bar podcast.

“You win championships and then you just go sailing,” he reflected, imagining a different path.

Looking back, Scamp admitted he’s “almost 30” and now wonders if he should have jumped on the Fortnite bandwagon.

Many gamers like Ninja saw Fortnite as their golden ticket to becoming huge stars and mainstream icons. Now Scamp is jealous of this moment. “Everyone ate. Everyone was eating,” he recalls, referring to the financial boom that Fortnite created for content creators.

Meanwhile, Scamp continued to work hard on Call of Duty, staying true to the game that made him famous.

“I love competing more than anything else,” he admitted, “but it’s something I always regret.”

Even with a list of accolades that most can only dream of, Scamp seems to be haunted by Fortnite’s missed opportunity.

Today he is a full-time content creator and streamer on YouTubeand you can catch him unlocking master of prestige in Black Ops 6 in his latest video. He even received Tattoo OpTic Gaming in October. So even if he regrets not joining the Fortnite train, it’s clear where his loyalties lie.

One of Call of Duty’s biggest stars, Scamp’s career remains monumental. But he’ll always wonder if he, too, could have become a Fortnite superstar.
