BASIS appoints Rashidul Hasan as new president

Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) has appointed M. Rashidul Hasan, Managing Director and CEO of Systech Digital Ltd, as its new President.

The association’s executive committee made the appointment at a special meeting on Oct. 30 because the position became vacant following the resignation of its previous president, Russell T. Ahmed.

Prior to his appointment, Hassan was Senior Vice President, a position currently held by Mostafizur Rahaman Sohel.

The association also selected Asif Rahman as its new vice president of finance as the previous holder of the post, Iqbal Ahmed Fakhrul Hasan, resigned at the same time as Russell T. Ahmed.

BASIS has made new appointments of current executive members for 2024-2026.

BASIS decided to continue without bringing in any external members to the executive board.

Earlier on October 20, BASIS conducted an automated poll to get members’ views on two issues: completing constitutional reforms and holding midterm elections to transfer power or resigning the entire executive committee.

Of the 594 voting members, 77.27 percent supported carrying out reforms in collaboration with members and holding elections, while 22.72 percent were in favor of the immediate resignation of the current executive committee, BASIS said in a statement.

Following the vote, BASIS agreed to implement necessary reforms to protect members’ interests and maintain organizational functions.

The current executive committee also intends to complete reforms and hold elections within the next six months.

A roadmap has been outlined for constitutional amendments, membership verification and member protection, with plans to present these ideas at the annual general meeting or extraordinary general meeting by January 2025 and hold elections by April 2025.
