Mom isn’t surprised her son won’t eat school lunch

No matter how old you are or how long it’s been since you were last at school, you probably remember the bland and unsatisfactory lunch options served in the cafeteria. Unfortunately, school lunches don’t seem to have improved over the years.

Carolina, mom on TikTokSchool officials reported that her son did not eat the lunch provided. One look at his tray made it clear why he had been avoiding food in the first place.

After seeing what was on his tray, the mom admitted she wasn’t surprised her son was refusing to eat his school lunch.

“We got a call from the school saying our son wasn’t eating his lunch,” Caroline shared on TikTok, explaining that she and her husband asked the school to hold off on lunch so they could bring it home and practice with their child.

During the recording, the mother removed the lid from the tray, revealing the lunch her child was served but chose not to eat. Seeing a poor excuse for lunch, no one, including the boy’s parents, could blame him for deciding to starve until he returned home.

Lunch consisted of beans and noodles with no sauce, cold and soggy frozen broccoli, and a couple of carrot pieces that looked like they had seen better days.

None of the food looked seasoned either.

Caroline and her husband admitted that the lunch was clearly inedible, and did not blame their son for turning his nose up at it. Moreover, the couple admitted that they would not want to eat this food either.

“I don’t want him to turn his nose up at food, so it’s not disrespectful in any way,” the mom said. “Let’s be realistic: if this is the only thing you can give your kids, he won’t eat it.”

To make matters worse, Caroline’s husband pointed out that they actually paid money for this nearly inedible school lunch.

Most children find school lunches “unappetizing.”

On an episode of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, the comedian slammed school lunches and singled out the National School Lunch Program, a federally subsidized program that provides school lunches to 90% of public schools nationwide.

When students were asked to rate school lunches, many of them admitted that the food they were served in the cafeteria was pretty terrible.

Some of the words they used were “strange”, “rancid”, “raw” and “unappetising”.

This doesn’t mean public schools should serve gourmet lunches prepared by five-star chefs because, let’s face it, many schools can’t even afford to pay their teachers. However, more care should definitely be taken when choosing the type of meals served, both in terms of taste and nutritional value.

Students won’t eat cold and soggy lunches, and when kids don’t eat lunch, they have a hard time concentrating in class.

It’s a destructive cycle. Young children especially need food that will sustain them until the end of the school day, and current nutrition clearly does not meet this need.

As for Caroline’s son, he will receive packed lunches let’s go forward.
