Kolkata: Bike taxi driver sends obscene videos to woman for trip cancellation, gets arrested | Latest Indian News

Kolkata Police on Saturday arrested a cyclist using the app for allegedly threatening and sending pornographic videos to a doctor for canceling his ride, news agency PTI reported.

A doctor working in a private medical institution in the city. CalcuttaJadavpur area, booked a ride around 8 pm from the hospital premises. She reportedly canceled the trip because the driver was allegedly late.

After canceling the trip, the doctor reportedly received at least 17 calls from the bike driver threatening “dire consequences.” In addition to threats, the driver allegedly sent sexually explicit material to the doctor on WhatsApp, according to police.

“The doctor first made an electronic complaint to the Commissioner of Police and the Integrated Crime Commission. She also sent an email to the cyber cell before filing a complaint at the Purba Jadavpur police station,” the officer said. Police said the driver was arrested hours after the victim filed a complaint.

The taxi driver started asking her: “What were you doing so late at night? You know, if you were a guy, I wouldn’t have taken you at all.”

He then said that women should not drive to work alone or leave the house so late because if they are raped later, the drivers will be to blame. To get out of the situation, the woman said that she shared the location of the trip with her mother, who could track her.

October 14 student from Manipur accused Delhi police of apathy in response to her complaint about the harassment of a taxi driver who allegedly offered the man an “easy route to bail.”

During the trip, the driver of the online taxi aggregator constantly asked awkward questions. She alleged that the driver held her against her will and took her to an isolated place with the intention of raping her. When she resisted the driver’s attacks, he even threatened to kill her.
