One person killed in plane crash near Crossville, sheriff says

FENTRESS COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) – The National Transportation Safety Board says an investigation is ongoing after a plane crashed Friday near Crossville in the Wilder community of Fentress County.

The crash occurred northwest of Crossville Memorial Airport around 9:20 a.m. CT Friday, according to preliminary information from the FAA. Only the pilot was on board at the time of the crash.

Sheriff Michael Rigon of the Fentress County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to WVLT News that a body was recovered from the scene and taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for identification.

NTSB officials said the crash involved a Cessna 150, a small aircraft capable of carrying a pilot and a passenger.

Ragon said the plane, which was scheduled to fly to Illinois, crashed after refueling at the Crossville airport. Additionally, Reagon stated that the flight information did not match what they found at the scene.

The NTSB will be responsible for the investigation, with assistance from the FAA. Officials said an NTSB investigator is expected to arrive at the scene Saturday.

Additional information has not been disclosed.
