City of Cape Town to carry out critical 55-hour power maintenance in six suburbs

City of Cape Town The Department of Electricity Generation and Distribution will carry out 55 hours of maintenance on critical air infrastructure in six suburbs.

Repair work will take place from 22:00 Friday 1 November until 5:00 Monday 4 November, subject to weather conditions.

CITY OF CAPE TOWN TO CONDUCT CRITICAL ELECTRICITY SERVICES

Repair work was originally scheduled to begin on Friday, November 25, but was delayed due to inclement weather conditions.

The municipality said the critical air infrastructure provides power to:

  • grass park
  • Pelican Park
  • Muizenberg
  • Steenberg
  • Sunny Valley
  • Clovelly

The Cape Town administration emphasized that residents will be provided with electricity while work is underway. However, residents are warned that power outages may occur during the work. Sometimes, among other things, tripping may occur.

Residents are also advised to check the municipality’s official communication channels, including the city’s social media channels, or contact the call center for any updates on the upgrade work.

UPGRADES OF PREPAID ELECTRICITY METERS FOR NON-LOCKED RESIDENTS

Meanwhile, the City of Cape Town said its clients not affected by the November 24 deadline upgrade prepaid electricity meters.

The municipality said all of the city’s approximately 570,000 prepaid meters have now been installed.

“Therefore, the software update program is coming to an end for the city’s customers,” the municipality said.

To be clear, the City of Cape Town said there are two meter-related programs:

  • National meter software updates where upon making a purchase customers were given long codes to update their own meter software to Key Version Number (KRN) 2.
  • The second meter-related program is the Cape Town Prepaid Meter Replacement Programme. This program is still ongoing and is replacing older single- and three-phase electricity meters and prepaid meters with new prepaid meters in the suburbs served by the city to provide more accurate readings. , greater usage control and cost management.
