Kamala Harris makes a surprise appearance on the SNL finale before the election

The real, real non-Maya Kamala Harris will make a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live in the final episode before Election Day, according to media reports including the Associated Press and the New York Times.

The Washington Post also reported that Harris’ plane had been “diverted to New York for an unannounced stop” after previously heading to Detroit. “Reporters were told the flight was diverted mid-flight,” the Post’s Matt Wieser shared on social media, citing reporter Jeff Earl, adding that “aides did not answer questions about the sudden stop.”

Maya Rudolph is expected to continue her appearance as a special guest, so you can get a Kamala Harris double when you watch “SNL” this week.

SNL boss Lorne Michaels tried to confuse observers of a possible campaign appearance by Harris or Donald Trump last month, telling The Hollywood Reporter: “You can’t bring real people who are running because of election laws.” and equal time provisions.”

At the time, this seemed like a dubious claim given the notable moments in the show’s history that have previously featured candidates like Barack Obama and Donald Trump.

The episode will be hosted by former SNL writer and megastar comedian John Mulaney, with pop singer-songwriter Chappell Roane as the musical guest.

The news was first reported by the Associated Press.
