Notre Dame to host massive SEC commitment to Florida State game

Notre Dame to host massive SEC commitment to Florida State game

When Notre Dame hosts Florida State next weekend, it will do so ahead of one of the biggest recruiting targets in the 2025 class.

Wide receiver Derek Meadows is a potential five-star prospect who committed to LSU in the late summer, with Notre Dame seemingly finishing second.

According to a report from Irish TribuneMeadows will be at Notre Dame next weekend.

Derek Meadows to miss LSU’s big home game

The report says this will be Meadows’ official visit, which is notable in itself, but perhaps even more so considering what’s happening at LSU next weekend.

The Tigers host Alabama in the biggest game of the season at Tiger Stadium, and instead of staying there, Meadows heads to South Bend to see the Irish take on a woeful Florida State team.

According to 247SportsMeadows has not made an official visit since the summer.

Derek Meadows Recruiting Profile

If you follow recruiting at all, you know how Notre Dame has struggled to land a big receiver in recent years. Meadows was Notre Dame’s top target in the 2025 recruiting class, and despite him committing to LSU back on July 20, the Irish haven’t stopped in their efforts.

So why do they want Meadows so badly?

Meadows checks in at a size you can’t coach as he checks in at 6-5,200 pounds. 247Sports ranks him as one of the top players in the country, ranking him as the No. 46 overall player in the country and the No. 7 wide receiver in the country.

From Greg Biggins of 247Sports:

Meadows is a powerful receiver and one of the most intriguing players in the ’25 class. He has a rare combination of size, athleticism and body control, and only scratches the surface of how good we think he can be. At 6-6, 200 pounds with an 80-inch wingspan, he is a nightmare for smaller defenders and should be an immediate threat in the red zone. He can also run and is one of the region’s top track and field athletes, although he has been limited by a hamstring injury this spring. He was named Gatorade Track and Field Athlete of the Year as a sophomore and is one of the top hurdlers in the region. He has a powerful frame, and we wouldn’t be shocked if he ends up developing into a pass-rushing tight end who is lethal against linebackers and defensive backs in the middle of the field. That being said, he has a skill set as a receiver and we have seen him dominate in a 7-on-7 scheme with his length, jumping skills and ability to catch the ball through contact. His upside is extremely high and with further development there is no doubt that he has the potential to play on Sundays for a very long time.
