Why Quentin Tarantino refuses to watch Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films

Dennis Villeneuve’s new Dune films may have found a new generation of fans, but director Quentin Tarantino is moving decisively away from that group. The Pulp Fiction director appeared on Bret Easton Ellis’ podcast and revealed that he hasn’t seen Villeneuve’s Dune films and has no plans to do so.

What Quentin Tarantino said
During the conversation, the director said that he is not interested in watching new films that use the word “spice” so harshly. He said: “I’ve seen (David Lynch’s) Dune a couple of times. I don’t need to see this story again. I don’t need to see spice worms. I don’t need to watch a movie that uses the word “Spice” so harshly.

He further added, “It’s back to back this remake and that remake. People ask, “Have you seen Dune?” -Have you seen Ripley? -Have you seen the Shogun? And I was like, “No, no, no, no.” There are six or seven Ripley books, if you write one again, why are you doing the same thing they’ve already written twice? I’ve seen this story twice now and didn’t really like either version, so I’m not really interested in seeing it a third time. If you wrote another story, it would be interesting enough to try anyway.”
