Kamala Harris makes a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live with Maya Rudolph days before the election

The current Vice President appeared alongside her SNL counterpart at the show’s opening.

With only a few days left until the 2024 presidential election, the Democratic candidate Kamala Harris just unexpectedly stopped the campaign: spoke live on Saturday Night Live.

The vice president appeared at Saturday’s opening with her resident impressionist on the NBC sketch show. Maya Rudolphto urge voters to “keep calm-ala and carry on-ala.”

The episode began with a CNN clip of the candidates preparing to woo voters at the last minute, including James Austin Johnson‘s Donald Trump an epic crisis during a campaign stop. He then switched to Rudolph as Harris, whom he again joined Jim Gaffigan as partner Tim Waltz, Andy Samberg as Harris’ husband, Doug Emhoff, and Dana Carvey as president Joe Biden. When Rudolph’s Harris was all alone, she turned to the mirror to talk to herself, but on the other side was the real Harris, wearing the same costume. “Nice to see you again, Kamala,” the real Harris said to his reflection. “I’m just here to remind you: You got this because you can do things your opponent can’t do, you can open doors.”

The duo then joins in with a sing-song pep talk: “The American people want to stop the chaos and end the drama-la, with a cool new stepmom-ala, get back in our pajamas-laas and watch the rum-com-ala, like Legal blonde-ala, and let’s start decorating for Christmas, fa-la-la-la. Because what do we always say? Keep calm-ala and carry on-ala.” The sketch ended with the Vice President stepping out from behind the mirror and joining SNL alum utter the iconic line: “Live from New York, it’s Saturday night!”

Harris herself previously supported Loot personification of a star. “Maya Rudolph, she’s so good, she had it all: the costume, the jewelry, the manners.” Harris said this during a speech at View last month.

Until the start of the 50th season SNL boss Lorne Michaels stated that fans will not see any real candidates this election season. “You can’t bring in actual people who are running because of election laws and equal time provisions,” he said. Hollywood Reporter. “You can’t have major candidates without having all the candidates, and there are a lot of minor candidates that are only on the ballot in about three states, and it gets really complicated.”

Although Harris’ GOP opponent, former President Trump, did not appear SNL in this election cycle he hosted the show on November 7, 2015during his bid to become the Republican Party’s nominee in the 2016 election, which he later won. The host’s choice has received considerable criticism, and the show has sparked protests, particularly among Latino groups, following Trump’s recent comments calling Mexican immigrants criminals and “rapists.” Trump was invited to appear on the show again after his presidency, but he later said he declined. Other major presidential contenders to appear on the show in the recent past include Barack Obama November 3, 2007; Hillary Clinton March 1, 2008 and October 3, 2015; and May 17, 2008 and November 1, 2008, following the previous appointment in 2002.

The “Hot to Go” singer ruffled the feathers of some of her politically minded fans this summer when she rejected endorse a 2024 candidate, citing “issues on both sides.” Following online backlash, the pop sensation posted TikTok video explaining that she will “vote for damn Kamala, but I don’t agree to what was proposed because it’s questionable”
