Sometimes during a flight, retrieving your luggage from a plane’s hard locker isn’t always so easy, and many wonder why there aren’t flight attendants to help with this predicament.

A flight attendant has shared the “real reasons” why flight attendants don’t put bags in overhead lockers for passengers.

Kat Kamalani, who worked as a flight attendant for six years, took on TikTok to offer her pearls of wisdom on the subject.

Kamalani revealed the real reason behind the flight attendant’s reluctance to help with this particular job, speaking to her million followers on social media.

“Crazy fact… everyone thinks lifting your luggage into containers is a flight attendant’s job, but it’s not,” she began the video.

The secret why flight attendants can’t help passengers with this request comes down to pay and safety, as Kamalani later reveals.

“If we get hurt, we won’t have workers’ (compensation) because we’re not on track yet.

“In fact, our airline and a lot of other airlines tell you not to do this because you will get a lot of injuries. And you’re not even covered.

She added that most airlines advise their members not to help customers with heavy luggage in case of injury because insurers do not cover medical bills.

TikTok The user also reported that flight attendants are not paid until all passengers are on board and the plane doors are closed.

This means that when it comes to loading luggage into the overhead lockers, flight attendants are not technically paid at that point.

When it came to passengers lifting potentially heavy bags over their heads to put them in a locker, Kamalani had some advice.

She advised her followers to test how much overhead they were comfortable lifting to ensure they weren’t risking injury while flying by trying to move a weight that was too heavy for them.

The user continued that if you have trouble lifting heavy weights, it’s an easy fix since you can always swap out the items for a smaller bag that can easily be stored under your seat, she assured her listeners.

One user repeated her complaints, writing: “I’m a flight attendant and no, not all of us will help because you have to lift/hold half the bag, which can hurt your back.”

Another added: “For someone 5ft tall it’s more of a height issue than a weight issue. Especially with new planes and updated containers!”

With one caption: “I’m just asking a man to do this?? What else are they for?
