Worker rescued after elevator failure above Jersey Shore bed and breakfast

Worker rescued after elevator failure above Jersey Shore bed and breakfast

A maintenance worker was rescued from an elevator overlooking a Jersey Shore hotel Saturday night after it malfunctioned, local firefighters said.

A worker was painting and replacing exterior lighting at Sea Angel in Cape May when their aerial platform lift began malfunctioning, the firefighters union said Sunday. The worker was about 50 feet above the ground when the device malfunctioned.

City firefighters were called to the bed and breakfast around 6:30 p.m. A fire truck ladder was raised toward a worker whose elevator was stuck at the top of one of the building’s towers.

Firefighters said the worker fell unharmed.

It is unknown whether the worker worked at the dormitory or was a contractor. The bed and breakfast did not immediately respond to an email request from NJ Advance Media for comment.
