Levin’s CoCo Star Preloved Fashion Boutique Redefines Thrift Shopping, One Vintage Piece at a Time

While shoppers will enjoy the welcoming atmosphere and the ability to rummage through racks of carefully curated clothing that are in excellent condition, people looking to sell their favorite clothes will also find what they need in the store, she said.

“Like many, I was faced with the challenge of sorting through unworn clothing, listing items online, managing customers and worrying about shipping. With Coco Star, I wanted to make the process easier by offering people a place to pick up pre-loved vintage clothing, with sellers getting 50% of the sale price. It’s about combating the negative stigma often associated with buying second-hand goods. Our mission is to change the perception of pre-loved clothing by creating a community of conscious consumers who value the impact of their purchases.”

She bought the store from former owner Kim Poynton and reopened its doors in October. She said she was thrilled when the opportunity to purchase the business came on the market.

“I have always been interested in the fashion and clothing industry. I’ve also always been interested in going to pop and consignment stores to get a good deal without adding to the problem of fast fashion. So when this came up I thought I’d take the opportunity and give it a try. The business has already come with the building, it’s a great location.”

She said the store offers Levin customers an environmentally friendly alternative to shopping on foreign online sites.

“Levin wants sustainable fashion options. When you shop at Coco Star, you’re buying used clothing and helping to extend the life of your clothing. When you choose a used item over a new one, you reduce your carbon footprint by 82%. It’s also a way to get quality branded items at lower prices.”

She said the store not only helps the environment, but also helps the local community.

“Coco Star has a donation program that allows your used clothing to be used to support the local community in a variety of ways. Any unpurchased and uncollected clothing is automatically added to the program, or people can donate directly after they are dropped off. Local charities we support are Hato Hone St John, Women’s Refuge and Dress for Success.”

Bellick said selling and buying second-hand items is an environmentally friendly way to refresh your wardrobe and also help reduce pollution.

“The fashion industry is one of the largest polluters of the environment, and I believe that Coco Star is part of the necessary transition to a more sustainable future.”
