5 NFL Coaches in the Spotlight After Week 9 and When They’ll Be Fired

Week 9 2024 Plan NFL The season was very revealing when it comes to the incredible number of bad coaches who are paid millions to play in this league. While I would say the quarterback play has been good this year and the games have been competitive, there just aren’t enough good coaches to give every team that has a pulse the opportunity to play well.

In the first two months of the season, only former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh was relieved of his duties. It’s only a matter of time before the next bad head coach is handed the pink slip. This could happen tomorrow or, as is tradition, it could happen on Black Monday. Either way, several NFL teams need to ditch their current headset puppet.

As with everything, there are subtleties and nuances here. Not all jobs are created equally. Some head coaches are in dire situations, while others have no business sitting in the head chair anymore. I admit, there were a lot of bad coaches, but I settled on these five. Not everyone will be asked to leave, but I will have a hard time convincing my fans that this guy should still be leading us.

Let’s start with one last example of how internal promotion can often go horribly wrong…

Las Vegas Raiders GOB Bluth may have made a huge mistake by promoting former assistant cornerback Antonio Pierce from within. Raiders owner Mark Davis didn’t want to be made a fool of for passing on a great internal candidate after gunning down the head coach. Pierce went 5-4 last year as the interim starter but stumbled to 2-7 this season after a loss to Cincinnati. 41-24.

While the Raiders may not have a league-average quarterback play, it feels like Pierce is starting to lose the locker room he once held together with duct tape a season ago. Honestly, everyone is an improvement over Josh McDaniels. I think the Raiders need to hire a real head coach and find a real franchise quarterback to be taken seriously as a real team in the NFL next year.

As for when Pierce might get the axe, I’d say he snapped an eight-game losing streak.

The final result does not reflect what I saw in Atlanta. Despite all the injuries, it seems that Dallas Cowboys waived Mike McCarthy. I feel terrible for him because he’s coaching the league’s greatest diva of all time, Jerry Jones, on an expiring contract. However, McCarthy seems to question every decision he makes, good, bad or downright ugly.

What I saw in Dallas 27-21 The loss to the Falcons on Sunday afternoon was something primal, something desperate that I wouldn’t want to be a part of. This team played reactionary football all day. You can’t win on NFL Sundays playing this way. As Jones continues to talk about himself, I have no idea when this will end.

Since Jones wants McCarthy to have a fun Christmas, I’d say he’ll hold out until the end of the year.

If Brian Daboll is allowed to coach New York Giants Next season, everyone who supports this team has the right to choose a new one. It’s not that Daboll is a bad head coach, because I don’t think he is. The fact is, the Giants have one of the worst ownership groups in professional sports. It’s incredibly decadent. IBM NFL runs on moldy floppy disks.

Loss to rival Washington Commanders 27-22 This is a referendum on the Giants franchise. Washington was a crapshoot under previous ownership. Well, look what happens when you breathe life into an organization. If the Giants were smart, they would fire Daboll and general manager Joe Schon before seeing if they could sell the team before the 2025 NFL Draft.

The Tish-Mars, or whatever they are called, are too noble, so they will drag this out forever.

Stupid people have to work somewhere, and many of them work for Cleveland Browns. While I would argue that Kevin Stefanski has probably already earned his pink slip, he would immediately be hired as an offensive coordinator in this league or by a team that recognizes that owner Jimmy Haslam is the main problem in Cleveland. I’ll still lose at home 27-10 with the Los Angeles Chargers, it’s so terrible.

So, in terms of trying to figure out when Haslam will inevitably pull the plug on Stefanski in Cleveland, I think it depends entirely on how Haslam’s alma mater Tennessee finishes the college football season. The Vols should make the playoffs, but that won’t happen if they lose to Georgia and then in-state rival Vanderbilt to finish 9-3 (5-3). It wouldn’t shock me if Haslam did this in December.

It could be later in the year anyway, but for a change, how about right before Christmas?

If there was ever an NFL head coach who deserved to be coached on the pavement like Lane Kiffin at USC, it should be a fellow visor-wearing enthusiast in Dennis Allen. His New Orleans Saints are an absolute smoking heap of garbage. After somehow losing on the road to Bryce Young and the Carolina Panthers. 23-22New Orleans has lost seven straight games after starting 2–0. Next up will be Atlanta…

I must admit, this is how it should be after this game. The NFL trade deadline is Tuesday. Derek Carr lost to an NFL record 31 teams. I think Gail Benson had reasons to fire Allen after Sunday’s performance in Charlotte. I also saw her leave him after a home loss to the hated Falcons. If that’s not enough, how about losing a ninth straight game to the equally hapless Cleveland?

As funny as it would be for the Saints to fire Allen before the Falcons game, it may not happen.
