Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua was ejected Sunday after he hit Seattle Seahawks linebacker Tyrell Dodson.

The incident occurred after Seahawks cornerback Rick Woolen intercepted Matt Stafford’s pass toward Nacua with 33 seconds left in the second quarter.

Woolen went out of bounds at the Seahawks’ 25-yard line, ending the play. However, Woolen did not initially realize he had gone out of bounds, nor did Dodson, who continued to block Nacua as the defender returned the ball to the middle of the field.

The Rams, who appeared to realize the game was deadlocked, didn’t look happy with the block on Dodson and then took a hit to the linebacker’s helmet.

The league’s panel of judges ultimately decides whether to eject players, and Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio questioned the decision-making on Nacua and other incidents.

The league office ultimately controls the eliminations. How did Xavier Woods not get kicked out for putting Chris Olave in the hospital, but Puca Nacua get kicked out for throwing a punch? Especially when Trent Williams threw hits in multiple games and wasn’t ejected?

Many fans disagreed with the decision, especially after Nacua’s response to the ban after the game was abandoned.

In the end, it was a brutal blow for the Rams, who gave up a quick touchdown and trailed 14-3 at the half.

It’s been a brutal year for Nacua, who missed five games this year with a knee injury before returning Thursday against the Minnesota Vikings and catching seven passes for 106 yards in a 28-20 win.

But Nacua found himself on the injury report this week with a knee injury, putting his status for the Seattle game in doubt. He ended up playing, but had a quiet first half, catching just one pass for 11 yards before leaving.

Without Nacua, the Rams’ core consists of Cooper Kupp, DeMarcus Robinson, Tyler Johnson and Tutu Atwell. But he’s scheduled to return next Sunday when the team hosts the Miami Dolphins.
