One of Scottish comedian Janey Godley’s latest posts on X/Twitter says she wants her support for trans people to be her legacy.

Godley, who was 63, died over the weekend after revealing she had ovarian cancer three years ago.

The actress, writer, political activist and television presenter rose to fame thanks to her impression of the then First Minister of Scotland. Nicola Sturgeon Briefings on COVID-19 during the 2020 pandemic.

Godley was an outspoken trans ally and often openly supported transgender community on her X check.

Last May she published GIF of trans flag colors and wrote: “When I die, I want to be known as a supporter of trans people. This will be my legacy.”

She even used the opportunity to undergo a medical examination for a cancer diagnosis to “shout about… support for transgender people.”

Several other posts showcased her allyship, including a video in 2020 in which she said, “I was harassed and trolled for at least three days… because I came out and supported trans people.”

Godley added about TERFS: “They tell me that I’m wrong, that I’m evil, that I don’t support women… Oh my fucking God, it just goes on and on. I saw what was there… I’ll use the Internet. However, I support the trans community.”

Trans rights group LGBWithTheT was among those to mourn Godley, writing in tribute: “Janey was a trans warrior ally, (and) … a fantastic person with a huge heart.”

Godley announced last month that she had moved into a hospice for elderly care, and on Sunday (November 3), her agent released a statement saying: “It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our client, Dr. Janie Godley, on November 2. .

“Janie passed away peacefully at the wonderful Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow. surrounded by your loved ones. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and many fans.

“She will be remembered for her iconic voiceover of Nicola Sturgeon during the pandemic, her hilarious and outspoken comedy, but most of all for simply being Janey.”

Her daughter, Ashley Storrie, also spoke to Godley’s fans in a short video, saying: “I believe in my heart that she felt every bit of love you sent her. I think that kept her going.

“I honestly think we extended her life because of all the support and love in the world.”
