  • Residents of Seme in Kisumu County will now be able to travel home and back for free for essential services.
  • This comes after philanthropist Isaac Owino Okeno bought a van for the community, dubbed “Usilipe Nauli”.
  • Okeno said the van was his way of giving back to the elderly members of the community who sacrificed to guide and train him.

Seme residents now have access to a new community support minibus, which offers free transport to vital community sites.

Nicknamed Usilipe Nauli – Swahili for “no toll” – the 14-passenger van will help community members get to hospitals, government service centers and other important locations.

The Usilipe Nauli van will provide critical support to older residents who often face limited access to services due to mobility or financial constraints.

This is a tribute to the dedicated contribution of the older generation to the upbringing and education of local youth, who are now the driving force behind the growth of the region.

“We owe a lot to our elders who sacrificed so much to train and guide us,” Okeno said.

He added that the van was his little way of showing our gratitude and making their lives a little easier.
