TheCUBE talks cloud innovation at KubeCon

As cloud technologies evolve KubeCon + CloudNativeCon NA 2024 Event promises ideas and innovation at the intersection of artificial intelligence, data integration and community collaboration.

This year’s conference highlights developer-centric shift and contributions from various participants. Kubernetes’ 10th anniversary event celebrates its journey from an open source experiment to an enterprise-ready platform.

“This will be the most exciting year because the Kubernetes platform is becoming so popular – this is also its 10th year.th anniversary,” John FerrierManaging Director of theCUBE Research, said during the pre-interview analyst segment. “Kubernetes celebrates both the past and the future—it is evolving (and) strengthening to become the backbone of cloud infrastructure as generative AI advances.”

As cloud technologies evolve KubeCon + CloudNativeCon 2024 The event aims to provide a cornucopia of ideas and innovation. Join theCUBE for live event coverage November 13-15, and don’t miss our analyst-led conversations that will provide first-hand insights from thought leaders at the forefront of enterprise computing and technology innovation. From concept to core: Kubernetes becomes indispensable for artificial intelligence applications

Kubernetes has reached its “Linux moment“, becoming the basis for large-scale distributed systems and applications based on artificial intelligence, according to theCUBE. Savana Peterson. This milestone reflects the platform’s maturity and widespread adoption as Kubernetes now plays a critical role in enterprise AI initiatives.

“I feel like the conversation has really spread throughout the enterprise; it’s not just an open source conversation,” Peterson said. “This is no longer a project. This is a true platform that helps companies realize their containers.”

As enterprises look to harness the transformative power of artificial intelligence and machine learning, Kubernetes has become the foundation for deploying and scaling these complex workloads. The platform’s adaptability and resilience have made it indispensable for platform development teams tasked with expanding their infrastructure to support artificial intelligence initiatives, according to the developers. Priyanka Sharmacompany executive director Cloud Computing Foundation.

“Businesses of all kinds are excited about the potential of this technology, but how does it impact customer value and business results?” she told CUBE in an interview before the event. “This is where you need something powerful, resilient, tried and tested… but at the same time flexible and adaptable, which seems synonymous with Kubernetes.”

According to Sharma, one of the challenges facing the ecosystem is attention from patent trolls, which is a common problem with established open source technologies. The Kubernetes community is ready to fight back, rallying support to maintain open source momentum and provide a sustainable foundation for the future.

“You’ll hear a lot of talk at this KubeCon about how we fight patent trolls (and) how we come together as a community because no one can stop us when we do this,” Sharma said. “We do prior art competitions (and) we work with some experts in the field, and the goal is to show these people that we are too strong to be intimidated, so go somewhere else or… stop working (and) do something else with your life.”

Building affiliation: from seasoned professionals to future programmers

According to Sharma, KubeCon is designed to be an inclusive space welcoming both newcomers and seasoned cloud professionals, with an expected attendance of more than 10,000 people. The event offers a variety of activities tailored to all experience levels, allowing participants to “choose their own adventure.” With tracks covering topics from artificial intelligence and machine learning to surveillance, KubeCon aims to ensure there is something for everyone.

“If you’re really deep into cloud technology and you’re thinking, ‘I just need a 401, college-level course,’ or if you want to start fresh and get your hands dirty, we have some amazing classes,” Sharma said. “There will also be a lot of information available about certificates related to the cloud ecosystem. I think for any newbie they are essential on the path to success in this industry.”

To encourage diversity, KubeCon hosts various working groups that encourage all members of the community to connect and contribute. Groups such as the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community, as well as the newly formed Black, Indigenous, and People of Color groups, reflect efforts to support underrepresented groups in Kubernetes. According to Sharma, these groups offer newcomers the opportunity to build strong bonds that support sustainable interactions.

“Some of the people involved in the deaf and hard of hearing group have also started a new group called BIPOC, and it’s for a different type of underrepresented person,” she explained. “They just started holding meetings (and) making deposits and I’m noticing a rush similar to what happened with the deaf and hard of hearing group. It is in these groups that they find their associates (they become friends) and remain close. It was very nice.”

KubeCon’s inclusiveness extends to Kids’ Day, which introduces kids to cloud technology through activities like Scratch coding. This program, first developed Arun GuptaChairman of the Board of CNCF, strives to inspire future technology enthusiasts.

“(Arun said), ‘Why don’t we start young?’ And it impacts in different ways,” Sharma said. “A big priority of Children’s Day is to support underrepresented children in the region where we are going. This is our way of giving back to the community we are going to join for the week.”

A look into the future of Kubernetes and cloud technologies

The first day of the event, known as Kubernetes and Artificial Intelligence Day, will be action-packed, according to research firm theCUBE Research. Rob Strechay V pre-event interview With Simon SeagraveSenior Principal Product Marketing Manager at OpenShift at Red Hat Inc. Companies using artificial intelligence in Kubernetes need data, and organizations like Red Hat are stepping up their efforts.

“One of the big things that none of us can miss this year has to do with artificial intelligence,” Seagrave said. “Obviously we’re doing a lot at Red Hat right now… OpenShift for AI(for example) introduction Red Hat Speed of Light …as a virtual assistant.”

According to Sharma, KubeCon offers attendees a platform to look into the future and learn about new trends and innovations in Kubernetes and cloud technologies. Showcasing advances in tooling and operating techniques, the event provides a unique opportunity to explore upcoming developments that will shape the future of the industry.

“We have found that prioritizing a specific set of talks in a specific category each day during the keynote phase helps guide many programs,” she said. “The first day was about platform development and how AI platforms have helped us, (then) there were keynotes related to that and I think it will be really interesting programming for everyone because it also shows how cloud nativeness is. the use of artificial intelligence even from a human point of view.”

Another area of focus is the growing role of security tools designed specifically for Kubernetes environments. As threats become more sophisticated, organizations need security solutions that can address the nuances of containerized workloads and microservices, Sharma said.

“We know that security is becoming more important as it becomes more and more complex,” she said. “This is the situation we find ourselves in, so we need a day dedicated to this… so we can gather all our energy, really internalize it and then hopefully get the most out of KubeCon on this topic.”

Another anticipated KubeCon event will be improvements in platform design to make it easier to deploy and manage Kubernetes in large-scale environments. According to Sharma, many participants are particularly interested in operational improvements that will support enterprise scalability and minimize downtime.

“I’m also very impressed by how quickly this community is changing and wanting to innovate, and that’s represented in all of these working groups that have emerged or evolved to focus on artificial intelligence (and) machine learning workloads,” she said.
