Commanders coach evaluates Jayden Daniels after 9 games

Commanders coach evaluates Jayden Daniels after 9 games

The Washington Commanders are 7-2 on the season. Considering their 4-13 record just a year ago, that statement would likely turn heads if it were said this offseason. Currently conducting second-best chance to win NFC EastThe Commanders can count on a playoff berth in the second half of the season.

Arrival of freshmen Washington head coach Dan Quinn, given a second chance as a head coach in the league, and rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels helped the club change dramatically.

In Week 9, Quinn was asked his assessment of Daniels so far and what impressed him most about the rookie quarterback.

“It’s a lot. I would say balance and decision making,” Quinn explained. “To have a quarterback that really respects the football and the decision-making process, that he plays the position well, not just throws it well. use the clock and go down the slide.”

Daniels is a dual threat player. He has shown that he can use it at the right time and in the right way in any game. He doesn’t make rash throws like other rookie quarterbacks do. He’s a reliable defender. The reigning Heisman winner plays like this.

“Things that I’ve seen him grow and get stronger as he goes along, and that’s one of the things that’s impressed me the most is like playing position and everything that comes with it, you know, position quarterback. ” Quinn continued. “Using the watch, going down for the slide, you’re using my legs for the first down when it’s time to start reading, so those are some of the things that impress me. The work ethic that he always got, and I knew it, and it doesn’t go unnoticed to me.”

The LSU product showed a willingness to improve in areas of his game that were a concern as he left the college level and entered the professional ranks. The culture of commanders will also greatly benefit from this. Despite being in his first year in the league, his leadership and ability to lead by example shines.

Commanders knew Daniels would be the choice pay but they did not know that it would happen so soon. They are making a leap similar to last season’s Houston Texans. Like C.J. Stroud, Daniels won the MVP award as a rookie.
