A jury has found a woman guilty of murdering her husband in Cherokee County.

In court, Melody Farris showed no emotion, unlike her family members.

Her adult children and others cried in the courtroom as the jury read the verdict and showed even more emotion as they walked out into the hallway.

The jury deliberated for four days.

At one point, the jury told the judge they were deadlocked.

The judge advised them to try again.

Taisha Fernandez (Channel 2) said she noticed the jurors weren’t eating together on Monday as they usually do.

She said there was some obvious tension.

A jury found Farris guilty of five charges related to killing her 38-year-old husband, prominent attorney Gary Farris, and then setting his body on fire in 2018.

She will be sentenced in December.

“In July 2018, a horrific murder occurred in Cherokee County. The man was shot and then left on a burnt pile, where his remains were later discovered. The victim, Gary Farris, was killed by his wife on his own property. The shocking facts of this crime will forever be remembered by everyone involved in this case, including first responders, prosecutors, jurors and witnesses,” said District Attorney Susan K. Treadaway. “Today, with this verdict, we can finally get justice for Gary Farris.”
