What are connections?

Connections is one of the most popular daily puzzle games published by the New York Times (owners Wardle). The goal of Connections is to group the 16 words of the day into four groups, with each group of four words sharing a common theme.

For example, the words “Hook”, “Nana”, “Peter” and “Wendy” are all symbols of Peter Pan. Or take another example: “Action”, “Pace”, “Walk” and “Stick” are words that usually appear before the word “Drawing”.

Your job is to figure out what the themes are that link the various words together, but be careful because most of the time, red herrings are deliberately inserted there to confuse you! To win the game you need to find all four Connections without making 4 mistakes. On the fourth error, the game ends and the answer is revealed automatically.

Each of the four groups in each day’s Connections puzzle is also assigned a different color, which indicates how easy or difficult it is to find the Connection. These colors are yellow (easiest), green (easy), blue (medium) and purple (hardest).
