Road project: we will pay compensation to affected residents – Vike assures

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Mr Nyesom Wike, has promised to compensate residents affected by the ongoing construction of the N5 arterial road, from Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III.

Wike gave the assurance after inspecting some projects at Life Camp, Katampa and the International Conference Center in Abuja on Monday.

On October 25, the minister directed the construction of a 4-kilometre six-lane dual carriageway from Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III somewhere in Ido-Gwari.

The former Rivers State governor, after inspecting the ongoing project, noted that it would affect some cash crops and a number of houses along the road corridor.

Wike, however, assured that within two days, the communities of those who own some agricultural crops and those who will lose their homes or part of their buildings will receive compensation.

“What we were going to do at Life Camp mostly involved some crops and a small number of houses that we need to compensate for, but if it requires them to move, we will do that; if this requires fair compensation, we will do so, depending on what is feasible.

“What’s important to us is that we work together with different communities to solve this problem,” he said.
