California elections expect final vote tallies in close elections to take weeks

(The Center Square) – While most states can finish counting ballots within a day or two, recent statewide election results indicate California’s results on close ballot measures and other contests may not be completed for several weeks.

Although the 2024 primary was held on March 5, under Proposition 1, news organizations No start calling the governor’s proposed $12.6 billion homeless housing and services bond measure a bottleneck before March 21, more than two weeks from now.

During the 2022 general election on November 8, Congressman John Duarte, R-Modesto, was not stated winner by December 2nd.

This year’s early voting period in California began on October 7, and ballots postmarked before Election Day may still be counted provided that they arrive no later than seven days after the elections.

The length of the vote count has led some to call California’s voting cycle “Election season“, not “Election Day”.

“I think it’s absolutely crazy how long it takes to count in California. Every nation and almost every state can understand this.” said Assemblyman Joe Patterson, R-Rocklin, at X. “If we were a swing state, this wouldn’t take so long.”

In 2020, Georgia, the last swing country to participate in the November 3 presidential election, was called November 13.
