Eguavoen plans major shakeup ahead of Super Eagles AFCON qualifiers

Super Eagles intend to complete the qualifying stage of the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) with two final matches against the Republic of Benin and Rwanda.

Nigeria, led by interim coach Augustin Eguavoen, is firmly top of the group and needs just one point from the remaining six to secure a place in Morocco.

However, before the first of these last two matches, a report emerged stating that coach Eguavoen intends to make major changes to the goalkeeping team.

Eguavoen will make goalkeeper changes

According to media reports OwnGoalNigeriaThe 59-year-old interim coach is considering changes to the goalkeeper lineup.

The report states that Eguavoen could select Udinese striker Maduka Okoye instead of Stanley Nwabali for one of the final two qualifying matches.

It is worth recalling that Eguavoen recently recalled Okoye to the Super Eagles team after an absence of over two years due to an error at the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon.

The report also mentions that Eguavoen sees these qualifying games as an opportunity to increase the competition between Nwabali and Okoye, aiming to keep both goalkeepers in good shape. Nigeria heading towards AFCON and the next round of FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

According to Udinese, Okoye has impressed since joining Udinese, recording three clean sheets in Serie A. Fotmob.
