Nalasopara: A controller at the Western Railway was suspended after forcing a Marathi couple to speak in Hindi and was detained at the Railway Protection Force (RPF) office, the Marathi Ekikaran Samiti reported. The couple was also forced to write on a piece of paper: “We will never demand to speak Marathi.” The incident has sparked controversy and members of the Maratha Eikaran Samiti are protesting at Nalasopara station.

Commenting on the incident, a Western Railway spokesperson said that the TTE is not working and further action will be taken after proper investigation. Vasai GRP has registered an FIR under relevant sections and further investigation is ongoing.

According to the initial information, the couple with a valid railway ticket was forced by a non-Marathi speaking immigrant, the TTE, identified as Rakesh Maurya, demanded the couple to speak Hindi and said, “If you are from India, you must know Hindi. “

The couple was also forced to write on a piece of paper that they would never be asked to speak Marathi. The wife recorded the incident on her phone, but was forced to delete the recording. The couple was forced to sit in the office for a long time and then arrested by the RPF, said a media statement issued by the Marathi Ekikaran Samiti.

The Maratha Ekikaran Samiti termed the incident as “disrespect for the Marathi language” and staged a protest at the Railway Superintendent of Nalasopara station.

Western Railway said: “For us, passengers of all religions, languages ​​and regions are equal and our goal is to provide them with the best possible service. The matter will be investigated and if any irregularity is found, appropriate action will be taken.”
