Follow the voting in the presidential race on a live map

The Arizona Republic/azcentral.com has created a map that allows you to see where the votes for presidential candidates are coming from in each precinct in the state as results are updated.

When you click on a county, a map of that county will appear with points and parcel boundaries. Each dot represents five voters for a particular candidate, and they are randomly scattered throughout the polling station (in other words, the dot does not represent the exact address where voters live).

Each time the Arizona Secretary of State’s Office announces new election results, the map is updated to reflect it, allowing you to see which parts of cities, towns and counties favor candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. It will also show you which polling stations have not yet reported results or have only released a few results.

Results will begin appearing on the map when they are announced Tuesday evening around 8 p.m.

How to use the map and how we did it

Results from the 2024 presidential election are shown at both the county and precinct level across the state. Clicking on a county will take you to the precinct-level results for that county, with each dot representing five voters.

The Republic uses a dot-density map, rather than highlighting polling places in a solid color, to indicate the candidate who is leading. A dot map provides a more accurate picture of changes in votes and results within a given area.

Data reporters at The Republic created the tool by obtaining digital precinct maps from each county and writing a computer program that automatically populated the maps with results released by the Arizona Secretary of State’s office.
