3 Delhi Capitals (DC) players can target via RTM card

3 Delhi Capitals (DC) players can target via RTM card

DC has decided to retain four players ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.

Delhi Capitals (DC) made a lot of noise after they published the list of players remaining until Indian Premier League (IPL) Mega auction 2025. The biggest shock was that they released their captain Rishabh Pant, who had been with them since the 2016 IPL.

Before the mega auction, the Capitals retained four players: Axar Patel (INR 16.50 crore), Kuldeep Yadav (INR 13.25 crore), Tristan Stubbs (INR 10 crore), Abhishek Porel (INR 4 crore).

They will go to the IPL 2025 mega auction with INR 73 crore in their wallet and two right to match (RTM) cards. They can use these two RTMs for one uncapped player and one capped player, or two capped players, but not two uncapped players.

In this article, we will look at three potential ways in which Delhi can use its RTM cards.

So we’ll look at three players that DC can target with RTM cards:

1. Jake Fraser-McGurk

Jake Fraser-McGurk proved to be a very important player for DC last season. The young opener has made a name for himself in the Big Bash League and has shown that the hype is worth it.

Fraser-McGurk was given the opportunity to open the innings for the Capitals and went for the leather off the first ball. In the nine matches played by Jake Fraser-McGurk in IPL 2024, he scored 330 runs, including four fifties and a best of 84. His strike rate of 234.84 was staggering. He hit 28 sixes in just nine games.

Fraser-McGurk would be a good use of the RTM map for Delhi. At the top, he is one of the top rookies who can take advantage of the power play.

2. David Warner

David Warner may be 38 years old, but as he retires from international cricket this year, there will be less pressure on his shoulders. He has captained Delhi in the past and the franchise can use its RTM card to get Warner at a not so high price. Warner remains one of the strongest cricketers in the world today and is yet to have one or two big seasons in the IPL.

As for Warner’s record in the IPL, he played 184 matches, scoring 6565 runs, of which he had four centuries and 62 fifties. For Delhi in the last three seasons, Warner scored 432, 516 and 168 runs respectively, scoring 12 half-centuries.

3. Mitchell Marsh

Mitchell Marsh was a big buy for Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2022 auction. He had a batting average for Delhi of 440 runs in 21 innings and 17 wickets. Apart from this, Marsh’s participation in the 2023 and 2024 IPLs was limited due to national team commitments and injuries.

During his IPL career, he has 666 runs and 47 wickets in 42 matches. But Marsh has recently shown excellent batting form for Australia and has cemented his place in all three formats. He is also the captain of the Australian T20I team, which is a testament to his maturity in recent years and the fact that he is an all-rounder, a valuable asset for any team.

Batting at third, Marsh dismantled bowling attacks on all types of pitches. Delhi Capitals may want to use the RTM card to retain Marsh’s services.
