‘Catfish’ Star Nev Schulman Completes the 2024 New York City Marathon, Months After Serious Injury

Sunday, November 3 marked a milestone in the careers of thousands of runners from around the world who took part in the daunting New York City Marathon.

For Nev Shulman, this was a particularly incredible feat. Shulman, the reality TV star from “Catfish,” laced up his running shoes and took part in the race. What’s impressive is not that a celebrity is running a marathon, but the fact that Shulman broke his neck three months ago in a bicycle accident and was still able to complete the race.

He told New York Post“I just remember the look on every nurse and doctor’s face when they first walked into the room… expecting me to be somewhat paralyzed and being so shocked and almost confused.”

His bicycle accident occurred in early August while he was on his way to pick up his son. While trying to cross the lane, he collided with a truck. He was transferred to Stony Brook Hospital after learning he had broken his neck.

As he recovered, Shulman wondered when he would be able to return to running, his passion. He participated in the marathon last year as a guide for Francesco Magisano, a blind athlete, according to the New York Post. Shulman planned not to participate in the race this year, but received a tempting message from Magisano.

Shulman told the New York Post that he didn’t want Magisano to plan for him to be his tour guide this year, to which Magisano responded, “Nev, I want to do this with you. I don’t care how fast or slow we go.” . If you feel like there’s a chance you can do it, I’ll wait.”

After spending more time recovering, doctors cleared him to run, and he ended up running his eighth marathon with his friend Francesco Magisano.

“It was a big event for me. Exactly 3 months ago I wasn’t sure if I would ever be able to run again, but today I have proven to myself that anything is possible with the right amount of commitment, determination and support.” “- wrote Shulman in his Instagram.

In his message, he thanked his family, friends and medical staff for everything they did to help him through this difficult journey. As the couple crossed the finish line on Sunday, the joy could be felt from afar.
