Dow up more than 400 points as US stocks close higher on Election Day

US stocks closed higher on Tuesday as investors awaited the results of the 2024 presidential election.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose more than 1% to close at 42,221, according to preliminary data from FactSet.

The S&P 500 rose 1.2% to close at 5,782.

The Nasdaq Composite Index rose 1.4% to close at 18,439.

The S&P 500 and Dow rose for the sixth straight time on Election Day, while the Nasdaq recorded its fifth straight positive performance on Election Day, according to Dow Jones Market Data.
