Power rankings accurately reflect Bears’ double loss

Power rankings accurately reflect Bears’ double loss

Everyone should have seen this coming, and some people did.

Shortly after Sunday’s desert disaster for the Bears, quarterback Caleb Williams was asked if he thought the Hail Mary loss in Washington had an impact on the team.

“I think we could have done better overall in terms of recovery going into the week,” Williams said. “I know this is a difficult loss. It’s a tough loss, no matter who you are in the stadium, whether you’re playing there or making decisions up there.”

The Bears lost to the Cardinals immediately following their loss to the Commanders.

In this week’s Power Rankings, the No. 33 team’s Marcus Mosher pointed out the consequences of turning a loss into two losses. Many others did the same.

However, Mosher added an element to explain why.

“Young teams often turn one loss into another,” Mosher wrote. “And that’s exactly what happened to the Chicago Bears in Week 9 when they allowed a Hail Mary loss to the Commanders to affect their game against the Cardinals this week.”

The Bears are still a young team. They had the eighth youngest squad entering the season and have a few older players like Marcedes Lewis and Patrick Scales who tip the scales, so to speak.

It still doesn’t justify how the coaching staff handled the whole situation.

This week’s power rankings reflect a lack of confidence in the Bears, their coaching staff and their ability to get back into the game.

SI.com: 19th place

They dropped to one place and Conor Orr came to the defense sort of for Matt Eberflus due to fan criticism for his blitz call before Sunday’s end, noting that everyone wanted him to blitz on the Hail Mary.

“For example, Eberflus beat Kyler Murray before the half—exactly what fans, in retrospect, wanted Eberflus to do against Jayden Daniels on the Hail Mary drive—and it led to a 50-plus-yard rushing touchdown.” Orr wrote.

Guess what? Two different situations. The Hail Mary was the last play. They didn’t know for sure that the streak that Arizona broke was the last play of the half. The ball carrier or receiver had plenty of time to step out of bounds, resulting in a field goal, or even throw it, go up to the line, and put the ball down for a field goal attempt. But with only two seconds left in the game, there was only one option left to attack the Hail Mary. The blitz was a completely wrong decision against Arizona, a terrible decision.

CBS Sports: 18th place

They dropped four positions and Pete Prisco, one of their staunchest supporters in the power rankings have abandoned ship this year.
