Harris prepares to perform tonight

The vice president is preparing to give a speech this evening, sources close to Harris’ campaign team told ABC News.

Sources said they expect her to speak, but what she says depends on the results being known at that time.

However, one source says Harris wants to thank everyone.

According to sources, plans are subject to change.

Vermont re-elects Bernie Sanders, but also re-elects anti-Trump Republican governor

ABC News predicts that independent Sen. Bernie Sanders will win re-election in Vermont and also predicts that Republican Gov. Phil Scott will win re-election.

Sanders sits to the left of most Senate Democrats (but is part of that party’s caucus), so it’s interesting to see such a split in one of the bluest states in the country. Still, Scott is incredibly popular and is one of the few high-profile Republicans remaining in office who opposed Trump—so much so that he says he voted for Harris in the presidential election.

Mixed early numbers in Georgia

Georgia is one of the seven most important swing states in this presidential election, and early results there say little about the direction it might be headed. Trump now leads by about 60% to Harris’ 40%, with only 9% of the state’s expected votes reported.

But it’s notable that the two Atlanta-area counties that reported at least 70% of expected votes are both noticeably bluer than in 2020, while many of the state’s other more rural counties that reported the same are noticeably redder.

Still, about three-quarters of the vote in Georgia is estimated to be early in-person or absentee voting, which should be at least somewhat more favorable to Democrats than voting on Election Day. However, the extent of this partisan split in preferred voting method, so evident in 2020, remains to be seen.

Will Indiana or Missouri elect their first female governor?

There are 18 states that have never had a female governor. Tonight, two female Democratic candidates could break their state’s drought: Jennifer McCormick in Indiana and Crystal Quaid in Missouri. But since both of these states lean towards red, this remains unlikely.

There are now more women serving as governor at one time than ever before. It’s only 12.
