What the College Football Playoff Committee Said About the Oregon Ducks’ No. 1 “Sensational” Player

The College Football Playoff Selection Committee released its first Top 25 rankings of the season. Oregon Ducks are number 1. Besides leadership AP Top 25 Playersl, Oregon State topped the first version of the 2024 College Football Playoff rankings.

Following Oregon are Ohio State in second place and the Georgia Bulldogs in third.

While there is still football to be played, including the conference championship games, the initial rankings offer a glimpse into potential playoff matchups.

Rece Davis had high praise for the Ducks as he outlined Oregon’s history in the CFP rankings.

“The Oregon Ducks, a top player in the College Football Playoff rankings, are ranked No. 1 in the College Football Playoff poll for the first time,” Davis said. “They were second in 2014 when they played in the first national championship game of the playoff era. Dillon Gabriel was sensational and first 9-0 since 2012. They join Army, Indiana, Miami and BYU as the only ones remaining undefeated. teams.”

If the coach is from Oregon Dan Lanning and his team can go undefeated and win the Big Ten Championship, they will likely finish first in the 12-team playoffs. In this hypothetical situation, the Ducks would receive a first-round bye and would likely play a quarterfinal game in the Rose Bowl.

Oregon and Ohio State appear to be on track to compete for the Big Ten title, according to the first CFP rankings. The winner will likely receive one of the top two seeds, while the loser will receive the first overall bid.

The new playoff format will feature a total of four games in the first round on Dec. 20 and 21, with the higher-seeded team getting the opportunity to play a postseason game on campus. The quarterfinal round will feature four of the six New Year’s Day games: the Rose Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Peach Bowl and Sugar Bowl.

This season’s semifinals will be the Orange Bowl and Cotton Bowl, which will be held on January 9 and 10, respectively. The national championship will take place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on January 20.
