Osobora’s double-double helped Washington edge UC Davis in Sprinkle’s debut

SEATTLE (AP) — Great Osobor scored 15 points and tied a career-high with 17 rebounds, and Washington rallied late to beat UC Davis 79-73 and mark the beginning of the Danny Sprinkle era on Tuesday night.

Washington used a balanced attack in the season opener for both teams, with Mekhi Mason scoring 13 points, reserve Zouma Diallo scoring 12 and Wilhelm Breidenbach scoring 10 respectively.

The Aggies’ Ty Johnson scored a career-high 35 points on 10-of-25 shooting and 13-of-16 from the free throw line.

Washington led 37-33 at halftime before the Aggies jumped out to an 8-2 lead at the 17:52 mark when Leo DeBruhl made a 3-pointer. UC Davis held a slim lead until Tyler Harris hit a jumper with 6:03 left to give Washington a 60-58 lead, and they never trailed again.

Sprinkle comes to Washington after spending just a year at Utah State, where he helped the Aggies capture a Mountain West Conference title and reach the round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament.

He spent four years at Montana State and saw the Bobcats reach the NCAA Tournament in 2022 and 2023.
