Election Security Updates: CISA Says Only ‘Minor’ Subversion Observed in Election

Milwaukee has called in reinforcements from other parts of city government to help process ballots as it works through a backlog. 31,000 absentee ballots.

About 40 city employees, including firefighters, medical workers, IT specialists and librarians, are helping with the counting of absentee ballots, according to a city official.

The Milwaukee mayor’s office said absentee ballots were being recounted after several counting machine doors were not properly sealed due to human error.

As the vote count continued, some Republicans came to the Baird Convention Center to ask how the error happened.

“This looks like a real mess,” said Sen. Ron Johnson.

Johnson said he showed up at the polling station to “ask questions” and “restore confidence” in the results. He said he didn’t think the city was ready for the election.

Johnson was joined by GOP Chairman Brian Schimming, who summed up the incident in a few words: “You had one job.”

The Milwaukee Board of Elections previously said the city has “no doubt about the integrity of the election.”

“However, to remove any doubt in ensuring full transparency, the MEC has decided to begin the tabulation process anew for all ballots in the central vote count. This decision was made after consultation with both Republican and Democratic officials,” the commission said.
