Udhayanidhi Stalin’s veiled warning to Vijay: Whether the opposition is inside or outside Tamil Nadu, only DMK will win – Tamil Nadu News

Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin has indirectly warned actor-turned-politician Vijay that only his party will win the state assembly elections in 2026, no matter where the opposition comes from.

Vijay, popularly titled ‘Thalapathy’, meaning commander or leader, held the first conference of his newly formed party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), on October 27. At a launch event in Vikravandi in Villupuram district, Vijay made his first political speech in which he rebuked the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the BJP without naming them.

Since then, Tamil Nadu leaders, especially those from the DMK, have reacted to Vijay’s speech and comments.

Udhayanidhi, while speaking to the public at Villupuram, hinting at Vijay’s political foray, asserted: “No matter who decides to oppose us in the 2026 Assembly elections, no matter what alliance they form, no matter where they come from, be it Delhi or from the locals, the DMK will win.”

Udhayanidhi, who had been friends with Vijay for a long time, conveyed my best wishes to my fellow actor at his first political conference. “Vijay has been my friend for many years. I’ve known him since childhood. He was featured in my production company’s first film and has remained a close friend of mine. I wish him success in this new venture,” Udhayanidhi said.

After Vijay’s political speech, reactions to it varied. Congress leader P. Chidambaram called it a mixture of ideologies, which was supported by his son Karti P. Chidambaram, adding that TVK will not harm DMK’s vote share.

Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker M. Appavu, on the other hand, hinted that Vijay replaced Rajinikanth in the BJP.. Talking to the media, he said, “As you all know, the BJP tried to bring Rajinikanth into politics, but since he did not do so, Vijay came in to replace him. I don’t say that… but that’s what it says.”

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK chief MK Stalin also responded to the newly minted politician’s criticism. Stalin defended the success of his four-year government and rejected the idea of its failure.

Even before TVK’s first state-level party conference was held, the DMK had rejected Vijay’s political career. In August, party organizing secretary R.S. Bharati laughed at the actor and said that not everyone can become like former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran. MGR, as he was popularly known, was the founder of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, or AIADMK.
