Manchester United star ‘decides’ to ‘refuse’ transfer amid stance on Amorim, despite INEOS ‘not interested’

Manchester United star Harry Maguire has reportedly “decided” to “give up” on the prospect of leaving the Premier League giants in January.

A 31-year-old man joined Manchester United in a 2019 summer transfer for around £80 million from Premier League rivals Leicester City.

Maguire Made over 200 appearances in all competitions for Manchester United during a rollercoaster period at Old Trafford.

The England international was one of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s favourites, but the appointment of Erik ten Hag was expected to lead to his departure, with the Dutchman initially favoring Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane.

Maguire’s form dipped towards the end of Solskjaer’s reign. However, he remained at Old Trafford under Ten Hag and was one of Manchester United’s best players in the 2023/24 season after turning down a move to Premier League rivals West Ham.

Despite this, his future remains in doubt as his contract expires in 2025 and it remains to be seen whether he will sign an extension.

New report from Loading room claims Maguire has already “decided” to “refuse to consider leaving Manchester United” in January or to “sign a pre-contract elsewhere in the near future.”

Manchester United are said to have “no interest in keeping Maguire beyond the end of his contract” but the report explains why the centre-back feels he can beat new head coach Ruben Amorim.

“The England international is currently focused on staying at United and Maguire believes he can secure an extension to his contract in the coming months.

“Maguire is hoping to prove himself to Amorim once he arrives and is excited by the prospect of the Portuguese coach introducing a three-centre-back system.”

“Maguire’s best performances in recent years may have come for England when he played in a three, which gives him the ability to carry the ball.

“United currently have no desire to retain Maguire beyond the expiry of his contract next summer.

The England defender’s deal includes a one-year option that United can activate and the 31-year-old believes this is possible.

Maguire, who lost his captaincy under Erik ten Hag, has refused to leave Old Trafford over the last two transfer windows as he still believes he has something to offer United.

Maguire’s Manchester United teammate Manuel Ugarte previously worked with Amorim and he revealed one thing players were “surprised” to learn about the 39-year-old.

Ugarte said: “My teammates asked about him a lot. What surprised them was his age. He is also very hungry to win and that is very important. I can tell he’ll love it.”
