Hundreds of people fired fireworks during Nottingham incident – police

Nottinghamshire Police said “multiple police forces” were involved in the incident and fireworks were aimed at officers and other emergency service colleagues who responded.

Officers said the crowd on Midland Way had been dispersed, but “further disturbances” were later reported in the city center with fireworks being thrown at officers.

Police dispersed the crowd again, but no one was seriously injured.

Nottinghamshire Police Chief Commissioner Mike Ebbins said: “I want to reassure the community that a thorough investigation is underway and we are pursuing multiple lines of inquiry which will ensure those responsible are tracked down, caught and punished.

“We will not tolerate this kind of appalling behavior that puts people at risk, including our officers and blue light colleagues who were present trying to keep people safe, and we will seek to hold everyone involved to account.

“There will be increased patrols in the affected areas this evening, which will reassure the public as we continue to investigate.”

The force is now appealing for witnesses to come forward with any information.
