Trump’s Presidency Will Face Unprecedented Opposition

TUCSON, Arizona.— With Donald Trump elected to a second term as president, the Center for Biological Diversity today pledged to work hard to protect the climate, wildlife and wild places from Trump’s destructive environmental policies.

“Trump 2.0 will face twice as much of a fight from defenders of our planet, wildlife and basic human rights,” said Kieran Suckling, executive director of the Center for Biological Diversity. “We have fought Trump from the border wall to the Arctic Wildlife Refuge, and in many cases we have won. This country’s fundamental environmental laws are strong. We are more prepared than ever to block the disastrous Trump policies that we know are coming.”

For example, the Center will resist Trump’s “drill, drill, drill” plan and his efforts to make good on oil industry promises to roll back dozens of federal policies that protect public lands and endanger wildlife and public health.

“It will take a few more rounds in the ring, but we are confident that Trump’s greed, bigotry, misogyny, his anti-democratic bigotry will all be defeated,” Suckling said. “Our fight is for freedom. We will not rest until people across the country have agency over their own bodies, marginalized communities are free from attack, and every endangered animal is able to thrive.”

With Trump set to take office in a few months, the Center is calling on the Biden administration to deliver as many environmental protections as possible in the coming weeks.

As United Nations climate talks take place in Baku, Azerbaijan, the Center and its allies have called on President Joe Biden to set credible climate goals. The center has also pressured the Biden administration to abandon fossil fuel expansion ahead of Trump taking office, halting projects such as the giant CP2 liquefied natural gas export facility.
