MSCoE CG and CSM send: Happy 249th Birthday, United States Marine Corps | Article

On November 10th we celebrate the birthday of the United States Marine Corps. For the past 249 years, our Marines have answered the call to duty on both land and sea.

Founded in 1775, two infantry battalions of the Continental Marines were created to provide security and landing services for naval ships. These early Marines distinguished themselves in several important operations, including their first amphibious raid on the Bahamas in 1776, demonstrating their rapid deployment capabilities and unwavering spirit of service.

In 1834, the Marine Corps officially became part of the United States Navy. Marine units served on the Navy’s cruisers, battleships, and aircraft carriers. During World War II, the Marine Corps played a major role in the Pacific Island Amphibious Campaign against Imperial Japan. During the Gulf War, Operation Desert Storm saw Marine task forces liberate Kuwait and see combat in Somalia, Afghanistan and Iraq.

In today’s multi-domain operating environment, the Marine Corps continues to play an important role in our nation’s success. The Marine Corps set standards of professionalism and combat skills that prepared them for the toughest missions and earned them respect both domestically and abroad. Likewise, the Fort Leonard Wood team is proud to train alongside the Marine Corps of the Ozarks. Their discipline, dedication and professionalism makes us all better!

Happy Birthday Marine Corps, we are proud to serve with you!

“Semper Fidelis!” (Always faithful!)

Victory starts here – victory through skill!
