Would you like to see Shanghai through the prism of art?

“RanRan Art Season”, a visual and auditory art exhibition combining various art forms, opened to the public on Wednesday in Xintiandi. What sets him apart is that he invites people to become an integral part of the artwork.

“RanRan” is jointly presented by Xintiandi, a brand of Shui On Xintiandi, and UCCA, a leading contemporary art institution in China, and is the result of a three-year incubation program for young artists.

The program invited curators, artists, scientists, and architects to form an evaluation committee. The shortlist included 15 artists out of 422 candidates. A cultural advisory committee made up of thought leaders from various fields then selected three award winners.

Inspired by the prose of Eileen Chang: “I hurried along the edge of the street; Every step I took was a loud kiss to the ground,” this year’s season theme is “Spark to Shine.”

It includes three sections: the emerging artists exhibition “RunRun”, the Salomon Public Sound Art program “Rising While Listening” and the arts community program “Walk Around”.

These three objects not only connect the outside and inside of Xintiandi, but also create an atmosphere where local culture and artistic expression merge. They invite visitors to stroll through the city and experience the romantic atmosphere between art and the urban environment.

Liu Shuai, Dove: From Shanghai with Love, 2024, installation, video, text, etc.

Shanghai is the birthplace of the country’s modern homing pigeon sport, and countless folk memories of pigeons are preserved and buried between the shikumen and alleys. Inspired by this, the artist weaves a fictional story based on the flight and navigation habits of pigeons. In an alley, an old pigeon lover discovers that his pigeons have returned with letters that do not belong to his time.
