Kristen McDonald-Rivet wins Mid-Michigan’s 8th Congressional District

MIDDLE MICHIGAN (WNEM) – Sen. Kristen McDonald Rivet won the race for the 8th Congressional District, representing mid-Michigan. She defeated her opponent, Republican Paul Junge.

“I am honored to be trusted by our neighbors to represent central Michigan in the U.S. House of Representatives,” McDonald-Rivet said in a press release. “We won this race thanks to a broad and energetic coalition, and I am grateful to the tens of thousands of people who voted, volunteered and donated. We have shown that even in the midst of negativity and aggressive advertising, we can come together as a community with a positive vision for our region. “

She will become the first woman to represent central Michigan in the U.S. House of Representatives.

McDonald Rivet celebrated her win in Saginaw at UA Local 85 on election night, Nov. 5.

Paul Junge, her opponent, said in a statement:

“It was an honor to run for Congress here in Michigan’s Eighth Congressional District. As I look back over the past ten months since I began this campaign, I am proud to have had the opportunity to meet and learn from so many of our wonderful residents… I want to congratulate Senator Rivet and wish her the best of luck. »
