Travis Kelce comments on the Jason Kelce phone incident at Penn State

Travis Kelce stands firmly behind his brother Jason Kelce as the latter continues to express regret over his response during a confrontation with a fan last week.

In the November 6 issue, their “New Heightspodcast, brothers discussed Hot talk from Jason Kelce with a college football fan outside Beaver Stadium in Pennsylvania four days earlier.

The incident, captured on a phone camera, shows Jason Kelce reacting to a fan who insulted his brother’s relationship with Taylor Swift with a homophobic slur, grabbing the fan’s phone and throwing it to the ground. In one angle, the former Philadelphia Eagles center appears to be repeating the insult.

“I know you wanted to clear the air, so go ahead,” Travis told Kelce early in the episode, later adding, “I’m with you, man.”

Jason Kelce then spoke about the incident, expressing regret over his response.

“I am not happy with the current situation. My reaction brought attention to him and also gave the situation notoriety,” Jason Kelsey explained. “This is what I regret, okay?” It didn’t deserve attention. It’s really stupid, and if I just keep going, it’ll be one hell of a burger. Nobody sees this. Now it exists and it only perpetuates more hate.”

Jason Kelce also expressed disappointment in the language he used.

“Honestly, what I regret most is saying that word. And the word he used is just fucking funny, it takes it to another level. It’s right behind the wall and beyond the line,” he added.

“In the heat of the moment, I thought, ‘Hey, what can I say to him?’ I’ll throw that shit right in his face.”

“Now I know I shouldn’t have done that because now there’s a video of me saying that word and him saying that word and that’s not going to do anyone any good,” he added. “I think what I really regret is that there is now a very hateful video that is now online that has been seen by millions of people, and I share the blame for perpetuating it and putting it out there.”

“I know it’s weighing on you, brother,” Travis responded to Kelce. “This sucks. Obviously, you shouldn’t feel the scrutiny that much.

“The reality of the situation is that some damn clown came up to you and talked about your family,” Travis Kelsey added. “And you reacted in a way that was protective of your family, and you may have used some words that you regret, and it’s a situation that you just need to learn from and accept. And I think that you owning it and talking about it shows how sincere you are to a lot of people in this world.”

Travis Kelce touched on his brother’s remarks from “Monday night football” on the pre-game show earlier this week, when Jason Kelce said, “In the heat of the moment, I decided to meet hate with hate, and I just don’t think that’s a productive thing to do.”

Referring to his brother’s apology, Travis Kelce said, “Especially what you said Monday night. …You don’t choose to hate. You’re just not like that.”
