How Doctor Doom became Marvel’s new Sorcerer Supreme

Victor von Doom ruled the kingdom of Latveria with an iron fist for a long time. From his throne at Castle Doom, the iron-masked monarch attempted to conquer the Marvel Universe by using his scientific acumen and mastery of sorcery against the likes of the Fantastic Four, the Avengers and Doctor Strange. Doctor Doom had the cosmic powers of the Silver Surfer, wielded the reality-altering powers of the Scarlet Witch, ruled the multiverse as God Emperor of Fate with the stolen powers of the Beyonders in Secret Wars – and now has absolute power under the mantle new Sorcerer Supreme.

In 2025, Doom’s dark reign will begin anew. One world is under threat. Marvel Comics is calling the sweeping change to the status quo its biggest since 2008. Dark Kingdomwhen Doom joined Norman Osborn clique after Secret Invasion.

Five-issue main title Rise of the Emperor Doomby writer Ryan North (Fantastic Four) and artist R.B. Silva (Captain America: Symbol of Truth), will reinforce the branding of the entire line through insets and one-shots, including Rock Academy limited edition by MacKenzie Cadenhead (Dogpool) and Pascal Ferri (Doctor Strange).

“One World Under Doom is an umbrella that influences not only Rise of the Emperor Doombut also the entire Marvel Universe,” says Marvel Comics Vice President and Executive Editor Tom Brevoort. “To the Avengers, Spider-Man and more… In 2025, Doom will impact every corner of the universe.”

North adds: “In One World Under Doom, Doctor Doom emerges from (Latveria) and takes over the world overnight. Each country is a province of a united Latveria, and each is subordinate to Doom, and he is going to make some changes… He will be able to show the world that he is the greatest in the business, and this may not be good for the people who are not named. Victor von Doom.”

Summary:

Six months ago, Doctor Victor Von Doom became the Sorcerer Supreme and then disappeared beyond the closed borders of Latveria. For most, there is enough going on in the world that Doom’s absence is not a priority, and being without him for a while seems like a blessing. Few will admit that it really was… the calm before the storm. This is the storm that has now arrived.

The world has awakened to a new reality: Doctor Doom, the Sorcerer Supreme of Earth, has magically taken over all broadcast media on the planet and declared himself Emperor of the World – the ruler of the new United Latveria! And, amazingly, incredibly, all the leaders of the Earth seem to agree with this.

Luckily, be it mind control or Doombots, whatever was affecting them had no effect on Earth’s heroes – and so they quickly form a strike team to stop Doom’s machinations. But will they succeed? And what will happen when some begin to welcome their new Emperor with open arms, demanding “One World Under Doom”?

How did Doctor Doom become the Sorcerer Supreme? Rise of the Doom Emperor comes out of last summer Bloody Hunt an event in which Stephen Strange temporarily handed over the title of Sorcerer Supreme of Earth.

When the vampire Varnae darkened the sun with the Dark Force, defeated the Avengers and defeated the Sorcerer Supreme, Strange’s astral form turned to Doom for help, who prevented vampires from penetrating beyond Latveria. Doom then told Strange that he must be the Sorcerer Supreme to cast a spell that banishes the Dark Force Dimension, which brings eternal night upon the world.

IN Bloody Hunt #5, Strange agreed to Doom’s terms to renounce the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme and temporarily hand over his powers, allowing Doom to save the world. While Earth’s Mightiest Heroes battled Varnae and his Blood Coven, Strange relinquished the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme on one condition: “Once the world is saved, you will return to me what is mine.”

Glory to fate

Doom then gave Strange his word, and so Strange bound a fragment of his living soul to Doom’s soul. Since Strange was currently among the undead, he handed over the mantle of the Sorcerer Supreme – along with the Cloak of Levitation and the all-seeing Eye of Agamotto – with the words: “Hail the Sorcerer Supreme.”

“No,” said Doom. “Hi all Rock”

The Sorcerer Supreme Doom fulfilled his part of the deal and reversed Varna’s spell. Combining the magic of humans, fairies, Faltins and the inhabitants of the strange world to perform unprecedented magic, Doom performed a ritual that returned light to the world.

But when Strange reminded Doom of his word, Earth’s new superior, the Sorcerer Supreme, told him that his oath was to hand the position of Sorcerer Supreme back to Strange once he had saved the world. “I’ve just begun, Steven,” Doom said, dispelling Strange’s spirit. “Doom does Nothing half. Now let me show you what it means to save the world.”

One world is under threat

Doom’s second act as the Sorcerer Supreme was to elect Spider-Man as his Champion in the Covenant. Strange had a duty to use his power as the Sorcerer Supreme and save the world from Cyttorak and his descendantsbut Doom delegated this responsibility to the wall-crawler. IN The Amazing Spider-Man #61, Doom will provide Spider-Man. eight extra lives and a Doom-style suit of magical armor so he could suffer and die over and over again in “The 8 Deaths of Spider-Man”.
