WASHINGTON (AP) — Donald Trump elected president for the second time A Republican return to the U.S. Senate could undo many of the nation’s climate policies that most reduce emissions of planet-warming greenhouse gases, climate solutions experts say.

When they list the policies that have the biggest impact, it aligns with the policies Trump says he will push.

These rollbacks will come as more lives are lost to heat waves, record amounts of climate pollution accumulate in the atmosphere, the United States is hit by perhaps its two costliest hurricanes, and countries meet in Baku, Azerbaijan next week in climate negotiations, failed to take decisive action to change these realities.

Here are some of the measures.

Inflation Reduction Act, Landmark National Climate Law

This law is of great importance as US emissions are expected to drop by about 40% by 2030 if things progress as planned in the coming years.

It directs money toward measures that replace dirty energy with clean energy. One of the main ways to achieve this goal is to provide loans to businessmen who build new solar and wind power plants.

But it doesn’t stop there. It rewards geothermal energy developers and businesses that separate carbon dioxide from smokestacks and bury it underground. This stimulates the development of the next generation of nuclear energy. It provides a $7,500 tax credit to people buying electric vehicles. People buying used cars can also get a loan if they don’t earn too much to qualify.
